Xabi Alonso gives important Mbappé update after Real Madrid game absence

Xabi Alonso adds veteran analyst to Real Madrid technical staff

Kylian Mbappé missed Real Madrid’s Club World Cup opener against Al-Hilal on Wednesday night. Coach Xabi Alonso provided an update on the star attacker’s health after the match in Miami. The team’s campaign began at the Hard Rock Stadium yesterday evening.

Real Madrid played Al-Hilal and the match ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw. The capital giants had to settle for a share of the spoils in Florida.

The 26-year-old Mbappé was noticeably missed by his teammates. His absence meant the team sometimes lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

Mbappé was ruled out of the fixture because he was struck down by a bout of illness this week. He hadn’t been doing well for the last two days.

Speaking to the media after the full-time whistle, Xabi Alonso addressed the question of Mbappé’s condition. The Spanish tactician admitted, “I don’t know if Mbappé will be back for the next game. We’ll see. He wasn’t doing well in the last two days. He’s sick.”
