Real Madrid is reportedly considering a major move involving star player Vinicius Jr. This comes as new contract talks reveal significant demands from the Brazilian, which the club is unwilling to meet. His future at the club faces an unexpected turning point.
Vinicius Jr., under contract until June 2027, seeks a salary matching Kylian Mbappe’s. He currently earns €15 million net annually. Mbappe’s deal includes €15 million salary plus a €40 million net signing bonus paid over five years, reaching €23 million net yearly.
Real Madrid is hesitant to meet this nearly 50% increase on Vinicius’s current wage. This reluctance stems partly from his recent performance dip, scoring 22 goals in 58 matches last season. Contrastingly, Mbappe ended his debut season as Golden Boot winner with 44 goals.
Given the contract standoff, Real Madrid is open to selling Vinicius in the current transfer window. Though his release clause is €1 billion, the club doesn’t expect it to be triggered. A substantial offer, however, could facilitate his departure.
Saudi Arabia has expressed strong interest in the 25-year-old, reportedly preparing a world-record €350 million bid. The next few weeks are crucial, as a lack of progress on a new contract could lead to his exit.
