Rangers manager hunt heats up as Modric considers Glasgow move

Fresh talks between Davide Ancelotti and Rangers officials have brought the 35-year-old Italian coach one step closer to taking charge at Ibrox Stadium. Meeting in London last week, Ancelotti expressed confidence about being the leading candidate for the position. The discussions have progressed well, with additional negotiation rounds planned for the upcoming days.

Stepping Out From Father’s Shadow

Davide Ancelotti has chosen to forge his own managerial career instead of following his father Carlo to the Brazil national team setup. His coaching resume includes assistant roles at several elite European clubs – Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Napoli, and Everton – all alongside his father.

BBC sources report that Ancelotti has already outlined his vision for Rangers’ future during personal meetings with club representatives. The confident young tactician believes he’s ahead of other potential candidates in the race, including former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and Brian Priske.

The managerial selection process falls under the purview of current Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart, who is collaborating with an American investment group featuring Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group.

This consortium’s ongoing takeover of the Scottish club has somewhat slowed the appointment timeline. Inside sources reveal that Rangers must act quickly, as Ancelotti reportedly wants a definitive answer by early June at the latest.

Croatian Legend Could Join Ancelotti

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has dropped a bombshell by revealing that Ancelotti has already spoken with Real Madrid icon Luka Modric about potentially joining him at Rangers.

The 39-year-old Croatian midfield maestro, who recently announced his Madrid departure after accumulating 591 appearances, 138 goal contributions, and an impressive haul of 31 trophies, apparently “didn’t say no” when approached about the Glasgow possibility.

The incoming ownership group plans to provide their new manager with enhanced financial backing compared to previous seasons, potentially making ambitious transfer targets achievable.

Beyond Modric, Madrid defender David Alaba has also emerged as a possible Rangers target. The strategy appears focused on securing established players on free transfers who would accept lower salary packages than their current earnings.

Should Ancelotti secure the position, possibly bringing Modric in a player-coach capacity, it would signal bold ambitions from Rangers. However, competition for Ancelotti’s signature exists, with reports indicating interest from at least three other “high-level” clubs, potentially including RB Leipzig. The managerial situation should reach conclusion soon, with Ancelotti seeking confirmation within the next week.
